  • A Long While

I'm back again. It's been a long time, mostly due to a fear of multitasking. Hell week has come and gone, and during the prep weeks leading up to it, I decided that it would be a safer bet to let this project just sit quiet and wait until I had finished some of the more pressing deadlines. There were times in there when I wanted to work on this story instead of the dreaded honors project, but I'm pretty sure if I had done that my honors project would not have been completed. As it was, it was still a pretty close call.

So now it's time to work on this story. I've already submitted "Possession" as the tentative title, and since the deadline to change it is tomorrow, I don't foresee it changing. We're in a pretty good place to sit and write the second half. I have a skeletal outline sketched out for what scenes I need/want to write. After that I don't think it will be too terribly difficult to edit the first half. Most of it just needs to be removed.

The hard part will be mastering tone. That's my big goal with the second half. I need to completely change the narrative tone and really make my piece with the first person. If I can conquer that, I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to make the first half of the piece match. We shall see how it goes.

    And so it continues.

    1. Good Luck. I'm looking forward to reading the finished product. The line about revising the first half that was "most of it just needs to be removed" made me laugh. At least you've become very self-aware.

    2. My personal battle has been to just get anything on the page. I never really worry about making a rough draft good enough (you can revise endlessly until it is good enough)but just to get a rough draft finished. The side effect of that mentality is that a lot gets removed later. It's harder though, when your work gets critiqued before you think it's good enough. I'm hoping the finish product turns out though. Thanks for the well-wishes.
